Vandy-In-Hollywood is a professional, alumni-supported organization which provides the valuable guidance and resources that enable Vanderbilt students and alumni to navigate the real-world labyrinth of Hollywood.  As a unique extension of the Vanderbilt Film Studies Department, Vandy-in-Hollywood provides the “in the trenches” knowledge and experiences that can never be taught in a classroom.

Recognizing that the entertainment industry is a complex industry where success hinges as much on whom you know as what you know, Vandy-In-Hollywood gives students and alumni what every aspiring writer, director, producer, actor, agent, and executive needs upon arriving in Los Angeles – a built-in network of friends, professionals, and relationships.

Summer Internship Program

One of Vandy-in-Hollywood’s most successful programs is its Summer Internship Program. Since the program’s inception, it has become one of the most envied and powerful university internship programs in the entertainment industry, hand-placing approximately 30 students per year in summer internships at Hollywood’s top networks, studios, agencies, distributors, and production companies.  This “summer in LA” experience also includes guest lecturers, pre-release film screenings, studio tours and many other special events presented by Vanderbilt alumni.

In addition, ViH offers year-round events for alumni living and working in Hollywood, such as special speakers, seminars, and networking mixers with other universities and organizations.

On campus, Vandy-in-Hollywood works closely with its undergraduate branch to sponsor guest lecturers, screenings, workshops, and other professional events.

ViH harnesses the power of Vanderbilt’s extremely accomplished alumni base in Hollywood – a base which expands everyday. You can find Vanderbilt alumni at top Hollywood agencies (such as Creative Artists Agency (CAA), William Morris Endeavor (WME), International Creative Management (ICM) and United Talent Agency (UTA)), television networks (such as CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, G4, FX, Tennis Channel and Comcast), every major studio, numerous productions companies and many more.  Likewise, they’ve written, produced, or worked on movies and TV shows like Frasier, She’s All That, CSI: Miami, Dead Poet’s Society, and Desperate Housewives.

I never in a million years thought I could intern with the producers of Pulp Fiction, Garden State, and Out of Sight. I made wonderful contacts and, most of all, I have a better sense of where I want to be in this industry. Thanks to ViH, I feel like I have the tools to do it.
